Axel Hernandez & Itzayana Vasquez

Axel is a missionary in our Renuevos ministry, with experience in Bible teaching, music and leading youth camps.  He is currently serving as a youth leader, organizing recreational activities and leading the worship team together with his wife Itzayana Vasquez.  “Our focus is to show the unconditional love of God as that is what protected me from the many social problems that exist in the community that I grew up in.  We want to make sure that the children and girls at Renuevos learn more about God, feel they have a place to belong, so they don’t feel alone in their process of transformation.

Shawn & Sara Bettes

Shawn serves as the Director of Urban Plunge, a ministry of Christ for the City International that provides transformative short-term mission experiences for youth in urban centers across the U.S. Through these trips, students actively engage in serving alongside urban ministries, gaining a deeper understanding of God’s heart for cities and His mission in the world. Urban Plunge equips students to live as everyday missionaries while bringing encouragement and support to ministry partners, helping to strengthen their outreach and impact in their communities.

With decades of experience in ministry leadership and missions, Shawn and his wife, Sara, are deeply committed to empowering others to fulfill their God-given potential. Together, they are raising their four daughters—Roey, Piper, Nora, and Conley—while modeling a life devoted to service and Kingdom impact.

The Masters Workshop

The Masters Workshop is a prison ministry to men and women in El Salvador. These people are not only deprived of their physical liberty, but are spiritual prisoners; living without a personal relationship with Jesus Christ. Our team meets with prisoners to teach them about God and help them to grow in their faith through Discipleship and Bible Study classes, as well as English teaching.

Faro Project

After a period of civil war, El Salvador has entered into a time of rising gang violence. Through the use of extortion and violence, gangs control vast portions of the urban communities. This region is considered one of the most violent in the world, and six million children and adolescents undergo severe abuse every year, including abandonment.

As there is even gang activity within the schools, youth often join as a means to escape violence at home, and obtain drugs, identity, and a place in the world.

This is the reason that Christ for the City International works hard in this area to prevent children and youth from joining gangs through the development of youth centeres in the heart of gang controlled areas. Here, young people can come and be a part of a different kind of community where they are loved and accepted, and where the Gospel is shared.

These centres also provide a place for training in subjects like computer skills, jewelry making, English classes, art, cooking, music and more. They also gives youth the opportunity to participate in other activities such as Bible Studies, sports, field trips and retreats.

Since its beginning in 2012, the Faro Project has been able to open four new youth centres, with hopes of opening two more in the areas of Soyapango and San Marcos. Each of the youth houses will have a Mentors Group, made up of responsible adults in local churches who are volunteering their time to evangelize and guide the young people. We are looking for project partners to make this dream a reality.

The Spanish word, Faro means Beacon a guiding light. These youth centers will provide the light of the Word of God for the inner city youth of San Salvador.

All donations to this project will make a huge difference in the lives of children living in areas rampant with gang-violence in El Salvador.

Guatemala Music School

Our music school in Guatemala is being launched as a tool used to reach, encourage and evangelize the local population, including children and youth who are living in communities characterized by violence, addictions, abuse and corruption. These classes teach professional grade music skills alongside Bible studies, leadership and spiritual and academic support.

Where Most Needed (Costa Rica)

The diverse country of Costa Rica is located in Central America between Panama and Nicaragua. It is home to over 4.5 million people, with nearly half of those living in the capital city of San José. It has a stable democracy and has not had an army since 1949.

Amidst the beautiful beaches, vast coffee fields, and breathtaking mountains, there are real needs to be met. This is where CFCI reaches out – to the impoverished slums of undocumented Nicaraguans, to the girls and women negatively affected by tourism, to the homeless, to the children and youth who need Godly role models, to the AIDS victims – to those who are in desperate need of the hope of Jesus Christ.
