Balm of Gilead Global Ministries

Balm of Gilead Global Ministries was recently established in an area of Las Vegas where there are very few churches. The ministry’s founder also founded the City Wide Unity Prayer – Las Vegas movement that brings together the city’s government, schools, community agencies, law enforcement personnel, and the faith-based community in a concerted effort to effect positive change.

As a part of this ministry, your team will learn more about the ministry, attend a church service, and/or participate in community outreach activities.

Casa de Luz

Casa de Luz (“House of Light”) opened in 2009 in Las Vegas’ “Naked City,” an area that was known for poverty and crime. The church has been a transforming presence, serving the community through a variety of means such as community and youth enrichment activities, food, and school supplies distributions, in addition to being a house of worship.

As a part of this project, your team will learn more about the ministry, attend a church service, and/or participate in community outreach and missions activities.

Clean the World

Clean the World collects and recycles soap and hygiene products that are discarded everyday by the hospitality industry and other sectors that generate environmental waste. The products are then distributed to domestic homeless shelters and impoverished people worldwide, preventing millions of hygiene-related deaths each year, reducing the morbidity rate for hygiene-related illnesses, and encouraging vigorous childhood development.

As a part of this project, your team will tour Clean the World’s facility and participate in pre-sorting hygiene products for recycling and/or packing them for distribution.

Las Vegas Rescue Mission

The Las Vegas Rescue Mission has been serving the city’s homeless, hungry, and addicted for decades. What started as a small, storefront space in 1970 has become a campus that encompasses nearly two city blocks. The Mission includes shelters for women and children, men (including a section for single fathers with children), a chapel, thrift store, dining hall, training facility, free clothing ministry, and more. Hundreds of people are housed on a regular basis and about 1,000 meals are served daily to mission residents and others in the community.

As a part of this project, your team will tour the Las Vegas Rescue Mission campus, participate in a chapel service, and serve where needed.

Project 150

Project 150 offers support and services to homeless, displaced, and disadvantaged high school students in the Las Vegas area, so they can stay in school through graduation and learn the life skills necessary to be successful. It was organized in December 2011 when the founders heard about 150 homeless high school students at one Las Vegas high school who needed support over the Christmas Break. The effort has expanded to helping over 1,900 students in 43 high schools, providing everything from food, clothing, and toiletries to school supplies and bus passes. One of their highlighted events is the annual “Las Vegas Prom Closet”, where the teens can “shop” for new and gently used prom attire.

As a part of this project, your team will tour the Project 150 facility and assist wherever needed.
